Packing is one of the least enjoyable tasks of moving, and having to pack fragile items like glassware doesn’t make it any easier. Unfortunately, there is a lot that can go wrong when packing those fragile items, but we at Ashe Van Lines Moving & Storage can help you ensure the safe transportation of even the most fragile items. Here are three common fragile packing mistakes to avoid while moving.

Common Fragile Packing Mistakes to Avoid While Moving

  1. Too Much Space in the Box: While packing fragile items, you will need to be careful not to pack the box too tightly to avoid putting too much pressure on the different items. However, that does not mean you need to leave a lot of empty space in the box. Too much space will allow for jostling during transportation and could result in broken belongings. If you do have any empty space in the box, you can fill it with padding of paper, bubble wrap, or otherwise.
  2. Flimsy Packaging: You might be inclined to use the same packaging you’ve used for packing any other belongings in the house, but fragile packing requires sturdier packaging. Flimsy boxes with handles or bottoms that tear easily could result in damaged items. More rigid boxes or totes will be more appropriate and will be more likely to protect your fragile items during any rough patches in the moving process.
  3. Unlabeled Boxes: Fragile packing boxes should always be packed carefully in the moving truck and never at the bottom of a pile of heavy boxes. Labeling your boxes of fragile items as “fragile” or “handle with care” can help remind you and your movers to be extra careful with those particular boxes.
