Here at Ashe Van Lines Moving & Storage, we understand that packing for a move is challenging, especially when it comes to packing your fragile items. Everyone wants to make sure their fragile items, such as dishes, figurines, picture frames, etc., arrive safely and in good condition, but not everyone knows how to pack these items effectively. Fortunately, our team has extensive experience in fragile packing, and we have put together this article to give you a few tips on how to do it right.

Expert Tips for Fragile Packing

  • Use Small Boxes – The key to fragile packing is to prevent your items from shifting around, and one effective way to do that is to use the smaller boxes. In a small box, your items won’t have as much room to move around during transit, which will minimize the risk of them breaking.
  • Fill Empty Space – Another thing you should do when packing fragile items is fill all empty space with soft packing material, such as bubble wrap, packing peanuts, newspaper, etc. Place the packing material all around your items—below, above, and on each side—to create a cushion to absorb the force of any jostling.
  • Use Dividers – If you are packing a lot of similarly-sized items, such as a set of drinking or wine glasses, we encourage you to use dividers in your boxes. Dividers are an excellent tool for fragile packing because they prevent your glasses (or other items) from hitting each other.
  • Reinforce the Seams – The final fragile packing tip we’ll cover here is to reinforce the seams of your boxes with extra packing tape. In particular, make sure to use plenty of tape to seal up the bottom of each box—we’ve seen too many people lose precious belongings because the bottom of a box gave way.
