Some of us who have moved around a lot in our lifetimes really dislike the thought of moving yet again. For some people, it can be so stressful that they would rather avoid the idea of packing until the very last minute. What’s important to remember, however, is that when you’re moving, you should plan your packing prior to moving day. Why? Because if you pack the night before, it can only add to your stress.

Moving? Don’t Pack the Night Before!

There are a couple of reasons last-minute packing can be a bad idea. Firstly, fragile items that you want to make sure are transported safely might be at risk. Not only might they be packed in incorrect boxes or without the proper wrapping because you’re in a hurry, but they could also get jostled around during the move, resulting in damage to your precious items.

Another reason not to pack the night before is because all the things you might typically have thrown out or donated will suddenly be put in a box to be dealt with later. That means you’ll have even more to sort through when you arrive at your new place, making it a big hassle with added stress.

Did you know that a little bit of organization can go a long way to helping you and your movers on moving day? For example, something as simple as color-coding the boxes for each room in your home can help make the packing and unpacking process easier. Taking this small step a few days before your moving day will ensure that you know where everything is and where it should go when you actually get to your new place.
